Plainview

Plainview is home to around 1,200 people located in Pierce County, about 30 miles Northwest of Norfolk off on U.S. Highway 20. It has both public and private elementary schools, a public high school and has a variety of clubs and organizations with a something for everyone feel. The community is currently seeking funding for a proposed 32,000 square foot community center, that would greatly enhance the quality of living for the area residents in Plainview. There are currently two parks where youngsters can play on modern up to date playground equipment. In Chilvers Park, there are opportunities to play horseshoes, shuffleboard and tennis, and opportunities at Band Shell Park for disc golf, sand volleyball, and a zero-entry community swimming pool for summer dips. Just a short trip west of Plainview you will find the Plainview Country Club, where hole #9 has been recognized by Golf Digest as one of the toughest par 3 holes in the country. From T-Ball to American Legion Baseball, Plainview takes lots of pride in their fields. Plainview has also received world-wide attention as it was transformed into the fictional community of Hawthorne during filming of the Academy Award-nominated film "Nebraska" during 2013. Residents and visitors can see the unique collection of over 7,000 clowns at the famous Klown Doll Museum, which hosts an annual summer festival called Klown Days in June each year. Located 20 miles west of Plainview on Highway 20, Grove Lake Wildlife Management Area’s fishing, hunting, and camping area features one of the only trout streams in Northeast Nebraska with excellent rainbow trout fishing in the winter months. In the summer, you can observe paleontologists at work at Ashfall Fossil Beds, or travel about 40 miles North to Lewis & Clark Lake. Situated on the Missouri River between Nebraska and South Dakota, all types of water sports are available here. If you are looking for some relaxation, Niobrara State Park is located west of here, near the confluence of the Missouri and Niobrara Rivers showcasing spectacular scenic views, cabin rentals, horseback trails, fishing and wildlife watching opportunities.
